Course Information | |||||||||||
Description | Basic concepts necessary for the study of algebra: solving linear, rational, absolute value, radical, and quadratic equations and linear, compound and absolute value inequalities. Factoring polynomials, problem solving and operations on rational and radical expressions are included. | ||||||||||
Prerequisites | 1) Course grade of "CD" or better grade in Math 0313 Introductory Algebra or equivalent course 2) Direct placement via TSI scores | ||||||||||
Learning Outcomes |
Upon successful completion of this course, students will: 1. Use appropriate symbolic notation and vocabulary to communicate, interpret, and explain mathematical concepts. 2. Define, represent, and perform operations on real numbers, applying numeric reasoning to investigate and describe quantitative relationships and solve real-world problems in a variety of contexts. 3. Use algebraic reasoning to solve problems that require ratios, rates, percentages, and proportions in a variety of contexts using multiple representations. 4. Apply algebraic reasoning to manipulate expressions and equations to solve real-world problems. 5. Use graphs, tables, and technology to analyze, interpret, and compare data sets. 6. Construct and use mathematical models in verbal, algebraic, graphical, and tabular form to solve problems from a variety of contexts and to make predictions and decisions. |

Determination of Final Grade |
Determination of Final Grade Homework 20% Exams 50% Final Exam 25% Portfolio 5% Attendance: Absences above the 300-minute marker can cause a reduction in your end-of-course grade. Portfolio: Incomplete or no submissions of your course portfolio can cause a reduction in your end-of-course grade, If a student does not pass (course grade DD or FD) a developmental course the student must be enrolled in EDUC 1300 and/or Student Success Center Lab concurrently when the course is retaken. The FD carries an academic penalty. |

Instructor Policies | Developmental Math courses take all unit exams and the final exam on campus, in the Student Success Center. There is not an online option for testing. This Developmental Math course has a No Calculator/No Cell Phone/No computer device policy for classroom purposes. Individual student information is not provided by email or discussed over the phone. If you have questions about your grades, course requirements, or department policies, schedule an appointment during the designated office hours. | ||||||||||
Attendance Policy |
LSCPA maintains attendance and participation requirements for all students enrolled in developmental courses. These requirements apply to all developmental students Your online course attendance is measured by activity in the MyLabsPlus management system. You are expected to have 75 minutes of Web-activity per week. Anything less is considered an absence. Your course documents include a detailed explanation of the online course attendance policy. Attendance counting begins on the first day the student is enrolled regardless of schedule changes. If a schedule change is made, absences that have been accumulated will carry over to the new section. |
